The mission of Kanyakumari Goverment Medical College and Hospital Asaripallam is to provide Quality health service in a timely and competent manner. Health services shall be provided in a fair, respectful and professional manner consistent with the available human resources and infrastructure.

General Surgery

To provide the best possible care to patients who require surgical services in the areas of General Surgery, surgical oncology, paediatric, vascular and transplantation surgery.
The vision of this department is to promote the growth and development of research programs that integrates into surgical practice, the advances in cellular, molecular biology and bioengineering.
To encourage the development of interdisciplinary clinical, research, and teaching programs between departments, and extending to other universities .

Patient care:
The Department of General Surgery – started in 2004 is now a fully developed unit of this institution.

Services offered:
24 hours General Surgery emergency care

Outpatient Services:
Regular Outpatient Department (OPD) providing basic and advanced General Surgery tertiary care treatment.

OPD Timings- 7.30 AM to 12 noon (Monday to Saturday).
7:30 AM to 10:30 AM ( Sunday)

Patients are thoroughly examined and proper advice is given.
Those patients who need admissions are admitted and necessary treatment is given. Dressings, minor ot procedures and follow up of patients are provided OPD patients are provided medicines free of charge.

Inpatient services:
Bed capacity to treat 150 patients with separate male and female wards. Availability of Surgical Intensive care unit

Operation Theatre:
Well equipped advanced high end operating rooms.
Hi-tech and advanced surgical equipments
Emergency surgeries round the clock

Regular surgeries:
Under CMCHIS scheme, economically deprived eligible patients get a world class treatment and done free of cost.

About the Master Degree Course:
Department of General Surgery functions in Kanyakumari Govt. Medical College which is recognized by The National Medical Council and this institution is affiliated with The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.
The duration of the course is three years(Full time residential course).

Number of Seats:
Letter of Permission given for 11 M.S (General Surgery) seats per year [Lr. No. MCI-68(22)/10(A)/2018-Med/182826 Dated 27.02.2019 of the Medical Council of India, New Delhi.]

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates should be citizens of India.
Candidates should possess M.B.B.S. degree of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University or any other University recognized as equivalent to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognized by the Medical Council of India. Candidates who have qualified from other Universities should produce ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE from Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University, Guindy, Chennai 600 032 at the time of counseling.

Duration of the Course:
Scheme of Entrance Examination & Seat Allotment: NEET PG(As per the Government Guidelines).
Hostel Facility:
Separate PG quarters are available for Male & Female PGs.

Tuition fees:
As per the Tamilnadu Government norms
The selected candidates have to pay the balance of the tuition fees ( if any ) and other special fees etc., at the time of admission in the colleges.

Stipend and Salary Amount: All Non Service candidates will be paid stipend as per the Tamilnadu Government Orders.
All Service Candidates will be paid salary as per the Tamilnadu Government Orders in force.

Others:
All the selected candidates should take Hepatitis B vaccine and submit a certificate from an authorized Medical Officer as proof thereof, which the Head of the Institution will verify before admitting the candidate.
The Heads of Institutions will not admit any candidate without the Medical Certificate. The candidates should take further doses at the prescribed intervals as required and should produce the necessary certificate to obtain stipend / salary.
